Jerome Messam was born April 2, 1985, in Toronto, Ontario and is a professional American football running back currently with the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League. On November 4, 2011, he became the third Canadian running back since 1965 and the first since 2000 to rush for over 1000 yards while also winning the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award. On Tuesday February 14th Jerome Messam signed with the Miami Dolphins.
Jerome Messam signed as a free agent by the BC Lions on May 14, 2010, who held his rights after he went undrafted in the 2008 CFL Draft. Messam carried the ball 23 times for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns.
In the off-season, Messam was traded from the Lions to the Edmonton Eskimos for a fifth round draft pick in the 2013 CFL Draft. Messam became the starting running back for the Eskimos in the 2011 CFL season. He became the first non-import player to record over 1000 yards rushing in a season since Sean Millington accomplished the same feat in 2000. Messam was named the Outstanding Canadian in the months of July and October and was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian at the end of the regular season. He was recognized by fans, Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches when he was awarded a spot on the 2011 CFL All-Star roster. On February 13, it was reported that Messam had signed with the NFL Miami Dolphins.
