Bobby Allison is a racing legend. In the long line of important racing figures, you will always see the name Bobby Allison.
In 1971, Allison won the World 600, the Dover 500, the Motor State 500 and the Riverside 500. He closed out the year with wins in the Michigan 500, Talladega 500, Southern 500 and National 500. His eight victories in races of 500 miles or more is still the NASCAR record.
In 1988 he won the Daytona 500 for the third time, just edging out his son, Davy. That was Allison's 84th win, third on the all-time list behind Richard Petty and David Pearson. Bobby is fifth on the NASCAR career money list, with more than $7 million in earnings.
With all the success, Bobby Allison has endured heartbreak.
His 27-year-old son Clifford died of injuries suffered while practicing for a NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway.
His other son Davey, was killed in August of 1993 in the crash of a helicopter he was piloting.
