One of the most influential political leaders of his era made an appearance in South Florida this month.  Former U.S. Congressman Barney Frank was in Davie to discuss his memoir, "A Life in Politics from the Great Society to Same-Sex Marriage".

He held the talk on January 7th at 7:30 p.m. during the Diane & Barry Wilen Jewish Book Festival at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center.  Admission cost $18 for members and $22 for non-members.

People could also buy into a VIP price of $50 or $55.  That included a meet and greet and book signing with Frank.

Frank represented Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981-2013.  He was chairman of the House Financial Services Committee from 2007-2011 and co-sponsored the influential Dodd-Frank Act in 2010.

In 1987, Frank became the first openly-gay member of Congress.  As a credit to the country's evolving tolerance and his competent governing, he continued to win reelection campaigns by a wide margin.

Frank got his political start in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in the 1970s.  He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
