Lexington, Kentucky will have their annual celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King on January 16th. Chicago minister Otis Moss III is coming in to serve as keynote speaker.

A Freedom March starting at the Lexington Convention Center kicks off the festivities at 10 a.m. Then, the Commemorative Program will take place at 11 a.m. at Heritage Hall.

There will also be a series of other events throughout the rest of the day. The celebration is sponsored by the University of Kentucky and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.

Moss serves as the senior paster at Trinity United Church of Christ. Throughout the last 20 years, he has pointed out problems in the black community related to mass incarceration, environmental justice and economic inequality.

Moss' community engagement team developed the "My Life Matters" curriculum. Out of that program, the viral video, "Get Home Safely: 10 Rules of Survival," was released following the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

Moss was named to the inaugural Root 100 list. He previously served as the paster at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia.
