Astronaut Dr. Roberta Bondar has inspired countless individuals throughout the years with her trailblazing story.  Bondar was able to share some more stories last month as one of the speakers at GeoWeek at Michigan State University.

GeoWeek is a national event that is run by National Geographic and formed over 25 years ago due to a presidential proclamation.  It allows those who participate to get a broader understanding of the world around them as well as fostering an interest in geography.

Bondar presented her lecture, "Earth Patterns From Afar", at MSU's business college complex.  She is a uniquely qualified individual to speak on geo-spatial topics.

With her takeoff on the Shuttle Discovery in 1992, Bondar became Canada's first female astronaut. She was also the first neurologist in space and followed that experience up with a ten year run as NASA's head of space medicine.

Bondar holds doctorates in both neurology and medicine. On the opposite side of the spectrum, she is also an accomplished photographer and has authored four photo essay books.

Bondar has received many awards for her accomplishments, including the Order of Canada, Order of Ontario, the NASA Space Medal, and a spot in the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. In 2011, she became the first astronaut to be honored with a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame.
