Originally from Roslyn, Long Island, New York, Wendy went to college near Boston where she studied psychology and was in a few plays. After school she did secretarial work at a major publishing company, and started taking a class called How To Be A Stand-up Comedian at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education.

For the next six years, Wendy worked at a local woman's college as an administrative assistant while pursuing stand-up comedy at night at clubs including CATCH A RISING STAR, THE COMEDY CONNECTION, PLAY IT AGAIN SAM'S and STITCHES. Her early gigs included after work drives to Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Western Massachusetts and Vermont, but she'd always be at her desk the next morning (drinking a lot of coffee).

In 1990, Wendy won the Johnnie Walker Comedy Competition semi-finals in Boston, and competed in the finals in Los Angeles. Thanks to Budd Friedman, the owner of the IMPROV, and Johnnie Walker, Wendy caught the eye of Tonight Show talent coordinator, who invited her to be one of Johnny Carson's guests the following week. If that wasn't thrilling enough, the whole episode was captured on a segment for CBS' 48 HOURS, on a special about stand-up comedy.

Since then, Wendy has been a regular on the Late Show with David Letterman, and has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In addition, she was the first comedian to perform on the Rosie O'Donnell show, and she has done two specials, one on HBO (the highest rated comedy half hour), and one on Comedy Central (Pulp Comics). Other television appearances include The New Hollywood Squares, Dr. Katz Professional Therapist, The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Keenan Ivory Wayans, Comic Relief VII, Louie Anderson's Comedy Showcase, Stand-up Spotlight, MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour, The Daily Show, The Magic Show, HBO's Women of the Night, Politically Incorrect, Women Aloud, and The RuPaul Show, as well as Comic Strip Live, Sunday Comics, Evening at the Improv, Caroline's Comedy Hour, Bob Hope Ladies of Laughter, Lifetime's Six Comics in Search of a Generation, and the Chuck Woolery Show (it was a talk show, not the Love Connection).

After being nominated three years in a row for Best Female Stand-up by the American Comedy Awards, Wendy won in 1997. She is also one of the few to be included in the Women of Humor exhibition in the Smithsonian Museum for Women in Dallas, Texas.

Wendy has opened for such music and comedy acts as: Ray Charles, Julio Iglesias, Sheena Easton, Ronnie Milsap, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Neil Sedaka, Bob Hope, The Smothers Brothers, Gregory Hines, Kenny Loggins, Jerry Seinfeld, Tanya Tucker, Ann-Margret, Richard Marx, and Joel Grey. In addition, she has performed at the Friar's Club in honor of comedy legends Phyllis Diller and Carl Reiner.

In Fall of 2000, Wendy was part of the newly established Laughter Arts Festival (LAF), performing with Bobcat Goldthwait, and Robert Schimmel during a five city comedy tour on the east coast. They traveled in a bus, and she felt like she was in the movie Almost Famous. In addition, Wendy has performed at the prestigious comedy festivals in Montreal (Just For Laughs) and Aspen (HBO).

Wendy continues to tour throughout North America, performing at comedy clubs (including Carolines, NYC; The Comedy Connection, Boston; The Punchline, Atlanta; The Laff Stop, Houston; The Improv, Miami, West Palm Beach, Baltimore; Governor's, Long Island; ComedyWorks, Denver; Charlie Goodnights, Raleigh; and The Comedy Zone, Charlotte).

Liebman was a contestant on season nine of America's Got Talent. On August 13, 2014, she was eliminated in the quarter-finals, but on August 15, 2014, judge Howard Stern picked Liebman as his wild card for the season, bringing her to the semi-finals. She was eliminated once more on the September 3 episode.
