Roger Nierenberg has been Music Director of the Stamford Symphony for more than a decade and is Conductor Laureate of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. The range of his repertoire spans three centuries.

Most recently, Roger Nierenberg conducted and recorded Danielpour's Elegies for Sony with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and von Stade and Hampson. He conducted the Detroit Symphony with Itzhak Perlman as soloist as well as seasonal concerts with the Jacksonville and Stamford symphonies featuring soloists Andre Michel Schub, Joshua Bell, Jeffrey Swann, and Pamela Frank.

Recent seasons include the successful world premiere of Danielpour's Sonnets to Orpheus in New York with renowned soprano Dawn Upshaw, where he led the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for the first time. His guest conducting engagements have included performances with the symphonies of St. Louis, Baltimore, San Diego, Columbus, Buffalo, the New Jersey Symphony, the London Mozart Players, and Mexico's National Symphony Orchestra. He has worked with such soloists as Sherill Milnes, Pichas Zukerman, Peter Serkin, and Nadja Salerno Sonnenberg.

As a conductor of opera, Roger Nierenberg made his Mostly Mozart Festival debut conducting Haydn's L'Infedelta Delusa, returning the following year to perform Mozart's Zaide to much acclaim. He made his Chautauqua Opera debut in 1988 conducting Tosca. His engagements at summer festivals have included the Tanglewood Institute, the Grand Teton Music Festival, and the Madeira Bach Festival.

Roger Nierenberg has also developed a highly successful educational program involving conducting, called The Music Paradigm, a private presentation in which executives are placed in the middle of a symphony orchestra to learn effective management techniques. The Music Paradigm has been given with great success throughout the U.S. for companies ranging from Bristol Meyers Squibb and Dow Corning to Pacific Bell Yellow Pages and Sears, Roebuck and Co. The Music Paradigm, which dramatizes how similar an orchestra is to a modern corporation, has sweeping implications that can revolutionize executive training and redefine the role of music education in the 21st century.

Born in New York City in 1947, Roger Nierenberg graduated from Princeton, where he received high honors in composition and was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. He holds graduate degrees from the Mannes College of Music and the Juilliard School, where he studied with Sixten Ehrling and Elie Siegmeister. In 1971 he received a fellowship at the National Orchestra Association. He has served on the faculty of Queens College and as the conductor of the Juilliard Pre College Orchestra.
