Robinson Cano was born October 22, 1982 and is a Dominican-American baseball player who currently plays as a second baseman for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball. He made his Major League debut in 2005 with the Yankees, after spending four years in the minor leagues.

Canó is a four-time All-Star and Silver Slugger Award winner. He won two Gold Glove Awards, and has been named American League Player of the Month twice. In 2011, Canó won the Home Run Derby. He was a member of the Yankees' 2009 World Series championship team.

After starting off the 2012 season very slowly, hitting only one home run in April, Canó recovered to hit 7 homers in May, and a career-high 11 home runs in June. He returned to compete in the 2012 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby but was not able to repeat the previous year's victory. Instead, he hit zero home runs and finished in last place, and was jeered by the Kansas City fans for not having chosen the Royals' Billy Butler to participate in the competition. He became the 9th player to fail to hit an HR in the Derby, and first since Brandon Inge did in 2009.

On Friday, July 20, 2012, Canó extended his career-high hitting streak to 23 games with a single off of Oakland Athletics pitcher Tommy Milone in a 3–2 Yankees loss. And, in the last 10 games of the season, he went on a ferocious tear, going 24 for 39 for an .615 average with 3 home runs, 7 doubles and 14 RBI.
