Born on April 16, 1942, Jim Lonborg is a former Major League Baseball right-handed starting pitcher. He was playing for the Boston Red Sox from the year 1965 until 1971, the Milwaukee Brewers in 1972 and the Philadelphia Phillies from 1973 until 1979.

He was known in his field of baseball as "Gentleman Jim" during his 15 year career. He was given such name because of his fearlessness for pitching on the inside of the plate. He had accumulated a 157-137 record with 1475 strikeouts, a 3.86 ERA, 90 complete games, 15 shutouts, and 2464.1 innings in a total of 425 games. In the year 2002, he was selected into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame. He had been enjoying his best year in the Carl Yastrzemski-led 1967 Red Sox "Impossible Dream" season. That was when he led the American League pitchers in wins (22), games started (39), and strikeouts (246). In the year 1946, the Red Sox was put in the World Series for the very first time. He was able to receive the Cy Young Award and became the first pitcher in Red Sox history to win this kind of award played in the All-Star game, and finished prominently in voting for the MVP award.
