Elmo Langley has been both a driver and an owner int the world of racing.

In 1966, Elmo Langley partnered with Henry Woodfield and created Langley-Woodfield Racing. That same year Elmo won the only 2 races of his long career. After the 2nd race of the 1969 season, Langley and Woodfield split and Elmo continued to run the team on his own returning to the driver/owner role

Langley ran his final full season as a driver for Langley Racing in 1975, but continued to drive in a few select races until 1981. After that season, he retired from driving. Langley shut down his racing team after the 1987 season.

From 1990 to 1996, Elmo Langley was a NASCAR Pace Car driver. Elmo was a frequent victim of the late Dale Earnhardt who used to bump the pace car "for the fun of it". Elmo died of a heart attack in 1996 while driving the pace car at the Suzuka Circuit in Suzuka, Japan during an exhibition with some of the NASCAR drivers.
