Courtney Bass Cox studied architecture/interior decoration at the Mount Vernon College in Washington. On summer vacations she went to New York where she was eventurally was signed by the Ford modeling agency. After several magazine shoots for Teen Beat and Young Miss, and numerous romance-novel covers she began doing television commercials for Maybelline, Noxzema and the New York Telephone Company, and several other sponsors.

Courteney began her acting career in 1984 on the daytime soap ''As the World Turns.'' She was casted for Bruce Springsteen's video 'Dancing in the Dark'. After doing the video Courteney hosted a music show called "This Week's Music." Courtney's first well known work as an actress was in 1987 when she was starred as the bright, perky girlfriend of Michael J. Fox on "Family Ties." Courtney's first success as a movie actress was when she appeared in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" with Jim Carrey. She did stage work that included "King of Hearts" at the Tiffany Theatre in Los Angeles where she starred with Michael Spound.

But her most famous and final break-through was when she won her role as Monica Geller on the hit television series of "Friends."  Originally the producers wanted her for the role of Rachel but Courteney convinced them to give her the role of Monica.

Courtney's biggest success on the big screen was for the movie "Scream" and "Scream 2."
