Chris Perry was born September 27, 1961 and is an American professional golfer.
Perry was born in Edenton, North Carolina. He has a PGA Tour victory in 1998 and has featured in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
Father, Jim Perry, pitched in major leagues for Cleveland, Minnesota, Detroit and Oakland, won 215 games and was the 1970 American League Cy Young winner. Uncle Gaylord Perry, winner of 315 games, is a member of Baseball Hall of Fame.
Perry was Minnesota state golf champion in 1978, '79 and '80 and won the Minnesota State Amateur and State Open golf titles before turning pro in 1984. Perry was a three-time All-America selection at Ohio State, where he also captured the 1983 Big-10 Championship. In 1994, Perry concentrated on Nationwide Tour and earned Player of the Year honors. In 1999, Perry ranked fifth on PGA Tour in earnings with two second-place finishes. His 14 top-10 finishes were second only to Tiger Woods' 16.
Perry also played baseball and hockey while growing up. He was captain of the Edina-West High School hockey team during the '79-'80 season.
Perry attended the Ohio State University, where he was named Collegiate Player of the Year in 1984. He was inducted into the Ohio State Varsity O Hall of Fame in 1993.
