Bill Clegg came to New York at the age of 21 to start a career in book publishing. By 30, he had a thriving literary agency. By 35 he'd lost the agency, his decade-long relationship, his reputation, and nearly his life from a crack cocaine addiction.

After a major drug binge and suicide attempt, Clegg went from the hospital to rehab, where he began to write as a process of remembering events clouded by his drug use.

Five years later, he published a memoir of his experience. Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man became a New York Times bestseller and was published in eleven countries. Globe and Mail called the book "a skillfully conjured, slow-motion train wreck from which it's impossible to look away." The Huffington Post said: "This memoir is as much a dark passage as it is the ultimate cautionary tale….this book needed to be finished in one sitting", and People magazine called it "both harrowing and hopeful: a triumph."

Now a successful literary agent, Bill also wrote a second bestselling memoir, Ninety Days: A Memoir of Recovery, about his experiences in recovery. He has written for the New York Times, Esquire, The Guardian, New York Magazine, and Harper's BAZAAR. His first novel, Did You Ever Have a Family, will be published Fall 2015.
