Bernard James was born February 7, 1985 and is a former staff sergeant in the United States Airforce and a professional basketball player. He played collegiately at Florida State University. The Cleveland Cavaliers took the 6-10, 240-pound Seminole in the second round of the 2012 NBA draft (33rd overall). The Mavericks acquired him June 28 with 24th overall pick Jared Cunningham and 34th overall pick Jae Crowder. The Cavaliers received guard Kelenna Azubuike and 17th overall pick Tyler Zeller. James served six years in the Air Force, attaining the rank of staff sergeant and serving three tours in Iraq, Afghanistan and Qatar. He signed with the Mavericks on July 25, 2012.
