Poet Sarah Kay Holds Book Release Party and Signing at the Sheen Center
Feb 19 2016
Poetry fans in New York City will have a special treat on March 4th. Rising poet Sarah Kay holds a book release party for "The Type" that night at The Sheen Center for Thought and Culture.
Kay will perform some of the poems from the book along with other favorites at the event that starts at 7:30 p.m in the Loreto Theatre. Following the occasion, she will also sign copies of the book.
Regular tickets cost $25, but there is a special $15 rate for students and veterans. It should be a unique opportunity to interact with one of poetry's promising stars.
Kay has been something of a poetry prodigy, performing since she was 14 years old. In 2006, she was the youngest competitor in the National Poetry Slam.
Her 2011 TED Talk has over eight million views and is one of the top 25 most-viewed discussions of the series all-time. Kay's first poetry book, "B", made it to number one on the Amazon.com list of bestselling poetry books.
That was followed up by another American Poetry bestseller on Amazon, "No Matter the Wreckage". Kay has also taken her platform to another level with Project VOICE, a non-profit that helps integrate spoken word poetry in schools and communities throughout the world.
