Not many people get to have a museum named after them.  Children's author Eric Carle is one of the lucky few to carry that distinction.

This Saturday, Carle will make an appearance at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.  He will hold a meet and greet and book signing at the Amherst, Massachusetts museum beginning at 10 a.m.

Tickets will be distributed that morning and museum members get early entrance to the event.  There is a limit of three books per person at the signing.

Carle has illustrated over 70 books, most of which he also wrote.  His career as an illustrator began in 1965 and his books have sold over 162 million copies worldwide.

Most famously, Carle had The Very Hungry Caterpillar in 1969.  That book sold 52 million copies alone and was translated into over 62 languages.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar was voted the number two children's picture book of all-time in a poll of School Library Journal readers.  For his contributions to literature, he won the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award in 2003.
