Each year, the Human Rights Campaign hosts the Time to THRIVE Conference. It focuses on giving those involved with youth the skills to empower LGBTQ people.

While a full list of speakers and events needs to be unveiled for the 2017 event, one significant attendee has already been announced. The first openly gay Miss America contestant, Erin O'Flaherty will make an appearance.

The fourth annual conference runs April 28-30 in Washington D.C. Registration is currently open and early bird offers are available.

O'Flaherty became Miss Missouri in June. As a result, she became the first openly gay woman to compete at the Miss American pageant.

O'Flaherty's platform is suicide prevention, particularly as it regards LGBTQ youth. She works with organizations like The Trevor Project and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

In 2013, O'Flaherty was crowned Miss University of Central Florida. She graduated from UCF with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
