Authors Stephen King and John Grisham Make Appearance at Florida Library Fundraiser
Two of the most successful authors in recent times are headed to Bradenton, Florida in two weeks to contribute to a good cause. Stephen King and John Grisham will add plenty of literary firepower to the Manatee County Library Foundation's fundraiser.
The fundraiser is called, "Bood-Ends: An Evening with Two Literary Giants", and it is being held Tuesday, January 19th at 7:00 p.m. at the Neel Auditorium on the campus of the State College of Florida. While it is expected to be a sellout, the Bradenton Herald is running a contest to win two tickets that cost $150 each.
Grisham will actually moderate the discussion with King. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Manatee County Public Library system fund literacy programs for the community.
King's 54 novels and six non-fiction books have sold more than 350 million copies. Several of his novels have been adapted for film, including the critically acclaimed 1994 hit The Shawshank Redemption.
Of the numerous awards King has received, the National Medal of Arts from the United States National Endowment for the Arts he received last year probably looms most significant. Most recently, he released his tenth collection of short stories in November and is working on his next novel, End of Watch.
Grisham has 300 million copies of his books translated into 42 different languages in circulation worldwide. He has been able to produce at the amazing pace of at least one book per year since the debut of his first New York Times' number one bestseller, A Time To Kill, in 1989.
Nine of Grisham's novels have been adapted into films and he is one of three writers to have sold two million copies on a first printing. Before becoming a full-time author, he was a criminal lawyer and served in the Mississippi State House of Representatives.
