For the next three weeks, noted author Mary Roach is touring around the Bay Area.  The Oakland resident is making several stops to promote her new book, "Grunt".

Roach already was at an event Tuesday at the Hall/Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto.  Her next appearance comes in Menlo Park on Wednesday at a live In Deep Radio conversation at Kepler's Books.

Roach will be making additional stops on June 24th at Bookshop Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz and June 28th at Bookshop West Portal in San Francisco.  Those both include discussions about the book and a signing.

Roach has authored seven books that cover the area of popular science with a humoristic tone.  Her writing career originally began with magazine articles, including a popular Reader's Digest monthly column called "My Planet".

One of the columns Roach wrote for Salon.com spun off into her first book in 2003.  Another article she penned titled, "How to Win at Germ Warfare" was a National Magazine Award Finalist in 1995.

While not having a formal science background, Roach is respected for the extensive methods of research she goes through when writing.  She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Wesleyan University.
