Author Carole Boston Weatherford Holds New Orleans Book Signing

Author Carole Boston Weatherford was in New Orleans on Sunday to sign copies of her latest book.  "Freedom in Congo Square" is a children's book that tells the story of 19th century Louisiana slaves. 

Weatherford was at the Garden District Book Shop for her 1:30 p.m. signing.  The book was officially released on January 5th. 

Weatherford has written over 20 books for children and adults alike.  They often deal with historical African-American themes. 

Her 2007 book, Moses, won a NAACP Image Award and was named a Caldecott Honor Book.  Weatheford has written several commentaries alleging African-American racist symbolism in East Asian culture, most notably in the popular children's cartoons Pokemon and Dragon Ball.

In addition to her writing, she currently teaches children's literature and composition at Fayetteville State University.  Weatherford holds master's degrees from the University of Baltimore and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
