With the opening of the first Modell's Sporting Goods store in Boston, they pulled out all the stops. Dignitaries traveled by duck boat to the Boylston Street location for a 9 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday.
Actor Verne Troyer was one of the celebrities brought in to add some extra sizzle. Troyer did photo-ops with fans from 9-10 a.m. and 4:45-5:45 p.m.
Legendary NBA center and former Boston Celtic Shaquille O'Neal was also present throughout the day's festivities. Today, ten percent of the store's total sales are being donated back to the Martin Richard Foundation.
Troyer is well known for his role as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers film series. Prior to his 1999 breakthrough on "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me", he had appeared in movies like "Jingle All The Way", "Men in Black", and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".
Following his run as Mini-Me, Troyer has been in several films and television shows as himself. He has been on reality TV shows like "The Surreal Life", "Celebrity Big Brother", and "Celebrity Wife Swap".
Recently, Troyer has been a spokesperson for the gambling site BGO.com. He was originally born in Sturgis, Michigan and is a graduate of Centreville High School.
