Zinedine Zidane has often been considered the best soccer player of his generation and of all time. The passing ability and perfect balance he posseses have made him one of the game's finest. He has been elected as the FIFA World Player of the Year three times in 1998, 2000, and 2003 respectively. In 1998 he was also named the European Footballer of the Year.
Zidane was a member of the French football team in 1998 World Cup, scoring two headed goals in the final leading his team to victory against Brazil. In 2000, he led his country to a second major championship, winning the Euro. In 2001 he transferred from the Italian Juventus F.C. team to the Spanish Real Madrid team on a four-year contract.
In 2006, Zidane announced his decision to retire from football after the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
He is infamous for "headbutting" an Italian opponent in the 2006 World Cup final.
