Tony Raines made his American Speed Association debut in 1988 followed by a full season in 1989 finishing sixth in the championship point standings.
He moved to the All-Pro Series in 1990 earning Rookie of the Year while racing to a fourth-place championship ranking. In 1991, Raines returned to the ASA Series and recorded his first victory the following year. In 1996 he posted three victories, 11 top-fives and 15 top-10s winning the ASA championship.
His NASCAR debut took place in 1997 in the Craftsman Truck Series. In just Tony's fifth start he posted his first victory at the I-70 Speedway. He finished that season with two top-fives and seven top-10s to end up 15th in the final point standings. In 1998 he won three times and had nine top-fives and 15 top-10s to finish fifth in points.
Just one year later in 1999, Raines made the jump to the Busch Series winning rookie of the year honors. In 2001, he finished sixth in points, recording four top-fives and 13 top-10s and in 2002 he had five top-fives and 11 top 10-s also making his Cup debut that season. He ran full time in Cup in '03 and recorded a sixth-place run, the only top-10 of his career. Raines kept sharp, recording one top-five and nine top-10s in 2003.
Raines has competed in just six races in each of the past two Cup seasons, but will be the primary driver of Hall of Fame Racing's No. 96 Ford entry in 2006 sharing driving duties with Terry Labonte.
