Tony Gwynn is often considered to be one of the best hitters in baseball history.
His entire career was devoted to playing as a right fielder, winning him five gold gloves.
It is believed that upon his eligibility in 2007, he will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
In the third round of the 1981 MLB draft, the San Diego Padres selected Tony, for which he played his entire career.
Gwynn is an eight-time National League batting champion who led the league in 1984, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997. He is also a 15-time All-Star, and was voted as a starter in 11 of the games.
Gwynn retired in 2001 with a total of 3,141 hits and a lifetime batting average of .338. Since then, Gwynn has worked as a color commentator for ESPN and is currently the head baseball coach at San Diego State University.
His uniform number #19 was retired in 2004.
