Silver medalist Todd Hays has been awarded the first U.S. bobsled medal in 46 years.
He has also won two world championship medals; the silver medal in 2003 and the bronze medal in 2004. In Torino, he was also a leading medal contender in both the two and four man events. Into the final weekend of the 2005-06 World Cup, Hays was the two-man points leader, was second in the four-man standings, and led the combined standings. Despite the fact that he opted not to race the final weekend to prepare for the Olympics, Hays ranked third in the combined rankings, third in the two-man and fourth in the four-man.
Todd Hays' first experience with the Olympics was as an alternate in 1998. This was a great accomplishment for him considering he had gone from USA-10 driver to USA-3 in one season.
Eventhough he is now regarded to as one of the biggest and most athletic drivers in international bobsled, Hays began his career as a push athlete. His first World Cup season as a driver was 1997-98, during which time he went to the Nagano Games as an alternate.
