Bowden was enormously successful as a college football coach, compiling a 15-year record of 111 53 2 at an impressive winning percentage of 68%. He won 73% of his games as head coach of the Auburn Tigers and posted the best opening five year record of any head football coach in school history. Before accepting the head football position at Auburn, Terry Bowden built two college football programs from the ground up, as head coach at Salem College and Samford University. Terry was the nation's youngest head coach at age 26 and it didn't take long for winning to become his trademark.
Terry follows in a great and proud football tradition. His father, Bobby Bowden, turned Florida State into a national champion. His brother Tommy is head coach at Clemson, brother Jeff is offensive coordinator at Florida State and brother in law Jack Hines is an assistant coach at Clemson. Terry Bowden certainly did his part to add luster and glory to the first family of college football.
In 1998, Bowden left his outstanding coaching career behind to make the exciting move into broadcasting with ABC Sports.
