At merely 21 years of age, Ted Ligety became the first American to ever win gold in the combined event.
Ligety is also the youngest American male to win a gold medal in an alpine skiing any event.
In the world, he ranks as the 6th youngest male to win a gold medal in alpine skiing.He also took home the gold during his participation in the alpine skiing event in the 2006 olympics; a great accomplishment that had not been matched since 1994. Only three other American skiiers had ever precedented with the gold victory in alpine skiing. He is the first Utah native to win the gold at a winter olympic event.
In 2005, Ligety rallied from a 32nd-best time in the downhill to the top spot with two of the day's best slalom runs. On the World Cup circuit, he earned his first medal Dec. 4, 2005, by finishing third at the Beaver Creek, Colorado, slalom. Previously, he was the silver medalist in slalom at the 2004 Junior World Championships.
