Tavis Smiley is best known for his role as the former host of the "BET TONIGHT with Tavis Smiley" show. While working for Black Entertainment Television, Smiley became known as Black America's favorite talk show host.
He has authored several books, including, Hard Left: Straight Talk About the Wrongs of the Right and his latest, Never Mind Success�Go for Greatness. Smiley is also the publisher of The Smiley Report newsletter.
In addition to hosting his tv show, Smiley currently offers political commentary on the "Tom Joyner Morning Show" and is a contributing editor for USA Weekend magazine. He also serves as a correspondent for CNN and an ABC-TV special correspondent for "Good Morning America" and "Primetime Thursday."
As an advocate, Smiley has earned numerous awards and recognitions, including the Mickey Leland Humanitarian Award from the National Association of Minorities in Communications.
His expertise has aided him in providing analysis on everything from CNN to "Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher," from the "Today" show to "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" and he has also been profiled on 60 Minutes.
He has founded a non-profit organization called the Tavis Smiley Foundation, whose mission it is to encourage, empower and enlighten Black youth.
