Tanith Belbin and her partner Benjamin Agosto, earned silver medals for the United States at the 2005 World Figure Skating Championships.
However, Belbin feared she could not compete in the 2006 Winter Olympics because she had not yet become an American citizen. Respectably, Congress made Belbin a naturalized citizen, successfully making her able to compete for the United States at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy.
In January 2006, Belbin and Agosto won their third consecutive national title and qualified for the Olympics. They won silver in ice dancing at the Torino Olympics, the highest result of any American pair and the first American ice dancers to win an Olympic medal in 30 years.
In February of 2005 Belbin co-hosted "Skate-Aid" to raise money for Tsunami relief.
