Sam Mendes is a stage and film director who is best known for his stage direction of "Cabaret." As a film director, he is best known for his film, "American Beauty", for which he won an Academy Award for Best Director.
Sam was discovered in the directing world for his production of "The Cherry Orchard." Soon thereafter, Sam was directing plays for the Royal Shakespeare Company where his productions took on much praise.
Among Sam's greatest productions on stage were "The Glass Menagerie", "Habeas Corpus", and "Company." His work as a film director includes, "Jarhead", "Starter for Ten", "The Kite Runner", and "Road to Perdition."
Throughout his career, Mendes has won an Academy Award for Best Director, a Critics Circle Award for best newcomer, and a number of Olivier Awards for Best Director.Today, Sam is married to actress Kate Winslet with whom he has a son.
