Sam Hornish Jr. is an American race car driver and a past Indianapolis 500 winner. After completing his first full season in the IndyCar Series in 2001, Sam Hornish Jr. etched his name in the record books by becoming the youngest driver ever to win an IndyCar Series race at the age of 21 and even more remarkably, the youngest driver to win a major open-wheel Championship in North America at the age of 22.
Hornish began racing at the age of 11 racing go-karts. Four years later Hornish's winning tradition began when he took the checkered flag in 19 of 55 starts, on his way to winning the World Karting Association's US Grand National Championship. Sam later moved on to Formula Ford Cars and then to the Toyota Atlantic Championship.
In 2002, Hornish again found himself making history by becoming the only driver to win back-to-back IndyCar Series Championships. Hornish fulfilled a life-long dream by winning the 2006 Indianapolis 500-Mile Race.
Now in his seventh season in the Indy Racing League, Hornish has stood on the podium 38 times and has 48 top-five finishes in 89 starts. At 26 years old, Hornish is the Series' all-time leader in wins (15), laps led (2,683), races led (55), and wins from pole position (6).
Presently, Hornish races for Penske Racing and resides in Napoleon, Ohio.
