Previously, Peter was Foundation Professor and Chair of Management Information Systems and the Director of the Centre for Management of Information Technology (CMIT) at the Melbourne Business School (MBS) at the University of Melbourne.
Peter's work centers on the role, value and governance of information technology (IT) in effective organizations. Peter speaks regularly as well as advises corporations and governments on issues of IT investment and pay off, and aligning the IT portfolio with business strategy. He has published widely, including award winning books, journal articles, and case studies. His most recent book is IT Governance: How Top Performers Manage IT Decision Rights for Superior Results (Harvard Business School Press, 2004).

Leveraging The New Infrastructure: How Market Leaders Capitalize on Information Technology Models, co-authored with Marianne Broadbent (Harvard Business School Press, 1998), now in its fourth printing

He is best known for his engaging presentations on IT governance and infrastructure, ebusiness models, and managing the benefits of information systems.
