Stinson first stepped into the newsroom in 1986, when he began working as Weekend Assistant Assignment Editor at KDFW-TV in Dallas. He got in front of the camera for the first time in 1988 at KLAX-TV in Alexandria, Louisiana. His next move was to KVUE-TV in Austin, Texas. With increased airtime and exposure, his career flourished. By 1995, Patrick found himself covering the O.J. Simpson trial for the syndicated TV show A Current Affair. Patrick then made the leap to network television and soon found himself anchoring live coverage of Princess Diana's death for both NBC and MSNBC.
In 1997, he began working for E! News as a correspondent. He wanted to work at E! so badly that he came out to Los Angeles from New York and showed up on the doorstep of the powers that be. He told them he happened to be in Los Angeles for two weeks and he'd love for E! to put him on the air during that time so he could show them what he could do. They said yes and eventually offered him a full-time job.
His first assignment at E! was interviewing William H. Macy, and he has continued to interview some of the top celebrities in Hollywood, including Will Smith, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Madonna and Denzel Washington. Today, Patrick plays host to some of the E! Original Specials, as well as continuing his duties as a correspondent and fill-in anchor for E! News Live.
