Small, slim and incredibly cute who could resist the wonderful Patrick Dempsey?! Whether he was playing a nerd (Can't buy me love), Stud (Loverboy), or even a gangster (Mobsters), he handled each role with such style and finesse that you couldn't help falling in love.

Born 13th January 1966 in Lewiston Maine and the youngest of three children, the Irish American, Patrick Dempsey showed he had incredible talent from an early age. A born performer from the beginning, at the tender age of 7, Patrick attended dancing classes where he proceeded to get kicked out for talking and flirting too much!

When he was 15 he developed his own act and toured the New England Vaudeville Circuit as a juggler, unicyclist, comedian and magician. He also went on to win the State of Maine Downhill Racing competition, and came second in a International Juggling event. As any true fan will know, Patrick often employed his skills in his varied movie roles over the years, especially his dancing techniques. In 1981 he also won a Talent America Contest, it was clear from the start that he had enough determination to make it big.

He got his chance to shine when he was spotted by an agent and invited to audition for the role of 'David' in the stage production of "Torch Song Trilogy". After winning the role Patrick spent the next four months touring with the company in San Francisco. He followed this with another tour, "Brighton Beach Memoirs", in the lead role which was directed by Gene Saks. Dempsey also made notable appearances in the stage productions of "On Golden Pond" and "The Subject was Roses" which was at the Roundabout Theatre in New York.

In the teen sex comedy "Meatballs 3", he landed the role of 'Rudy' a 14 year old virgin desperate to lose his virginity. Although this received terrible reviews, it still managed to raise more than a few laughs and be thoroughly entertaining.

His big break into the movies came in 1985 when he was cast opposite Andrew McCarthy and Kevin Dillon in his big screen debut "Catholic Boys" (aka Heaven Help Us ) as 'Corbet'. Although his role was small he still managed to make an impression and get noticed.

He went on to star in the Disney TV Movie "A Fighting Choice" with Beau Bridges, portraying a young boy with epilepsy. Dempsey's portrayal was so convincing that he won a special award from the Epilepsy Foundation. This was followed by a TV Series of the hit film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", titled "Fast Times". Unfortunately this was reportedly a flop, but it was a important learning experience for Patrick.

"The Woo Woo Kid"(aka In The Mood), Patrick's next film gained much more favourable reviews and won the hearts of critics everywhere who quoted his performance as being wonderfully naive. Dempsey played the role of real life womaniser Sonny Ellsworth Wisecarver who at the age of 15 courted two older women, even going on to marry one. This was to reflect on Patrick's private life, when at the age of 21 he married his manager at the time Rocky Parker who was 48 years old !! Rocky even made a cameo appearance in The Woo Woo kid as a screaming woman on the train. This sadly was to end in divorce.

"Cant Buy Me Love" is undoubtedly a favourite with Patrick's fans. Starring opposite Amanda Petersen as the Nerd who offers her $1,000 for her to pose as his girlfriend for a month, he captured the hearts of women everywhere and discovered a whole new legion of fans

"Happy Together" his next movie was dubbed a flop by critics. This was unfair as the film showed off his many varied skills as a actor and comedian and truly deserved to be a hit.

"Loverboy" the romantic hit comedy saw Patrick playing a pizza delivering stud wooing the likes of Carrie Fisher and Kirstie Alley.

"In A Shallow Grave" was a complete change of role in which Patrick was the bizarre go - between for a disfigured war veteran and his girlfriend.

Next up was "Sisters"(aka Some Girls), a romantic comedy where the sisters of the title pursue Dempsey, leading to some embarrassing situations to say the least !! Patrick was to later quote this film as being one of his personal favourites.

Leaving romance behind he starred in the hilarious road movie "Coupe De Ville"opposite Daniel Stern, as 'Bobby' part of a trio brothers travelling from Motor city to Miami to deliver a classic Coupe de Ville.

In "Run" Patrick played a young law student on the run from the mob. This was Patrick's first bash at action films, and was an excellent attempt proving that he could handle any role offered to him.

He proved himself a master at action and drama again when he starred in "Mobsters" alongside Christian Slater and Anthony Quinn in the role of Meyer Lansky a well known mobster. Although the film was ravaged by critics, all actors concerned gave fine performances especially Patrick who was truly outstanding as the sensitive Meyer.

Going back to comedy he travelled to Paris for his next two films teaming up with Kelly Lynch in "For Better And For Worse"(aka R.S.V.P) which saw the pope being invited to his forthcoming wedding, and "Face The Music" with Molly Ringwald, which saw Dempsey as part of a song writing husband and wife duo.

Lisa Bonet was his co-star in the crime comedy "Bank Robber" in which he played a robber with a heart.

He went on to win praise in the Critically Acclaimed mini tv series "J.F.K : Reckless Youth" as the young John Kennedy his performance was flawless.

In 1994 along with Rocky his then wife he directed and had a small cameo in "Ava's Magical Adventure", a children's adventure story.

Later that year he bounced back on the screen in "With Honors" sporting a sexy new hair - cut and image alongside Joe Pesci and Brendan Fraser.

In "Bloodknot" with Kate Vernon he is lured by a mysterious stranger with a dark and deadly past. In 1995 he was cast in the big budget movie "Outbreak" as Jimbo the guy who gets bitten by a monkey and spreads a deadly disease.

Using his acting skills to the full potential he went on to star in "The Escape", a story of a mans bid for freedom from jail.

In 1997 Patrick returned to Tv to star in the mini tv series "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea", a remake of Jules Vernes original novel. Also starring Michael Caine it was a great success, and a refreshing take on the original version.

"Hugo Pool" which was written and directed by Robert Downey Sr saw Patrick portraying a young man suffering from ALS who is confined to his wheelchair in the thought - provoking film, proving that even though you are unable to speak you can speak volumes with your eyes.

Patrick continued to keep himself busy by starring in a range of independent movies and stage performances, starring in the mini tv series "Crime and Punishment " with Ben Kingsley, the biblical film "Jeremiah" with the late Oliver Reed and "Something About Sex "(aka Denial). His latest stage production was in Oscar Wilde's "The Importance Of Being Earnest" at the Pasadena Playhouse in California.

He seems to be settled in his private life as he recently got married to his long term fiancee Jill who is a make up artist on 31st July 1999.

He has starred in the successful horror trilogy "Scream 3" along with Neve Campbell and has made several guest appearances in the popular tv shows "Once And Again" for which he was nominated for a emmy  and "Will And Grace".

He also had a supporting role as Cass Chaplin in the Marilyn Monroe biopic "Blonde" with Poppy Montgomery.

Patrick is curently working on the Touchstone pictures movie "Sweet Home Alabama" with Reese Witherspoon.

NBC  =are now negotiating a romantic comedy series for Patrick Dempsey to star as an aspiring chef for fall 2002.

The future is certainly looking good for Patrick!
