Parnelli Jones won six Indy Car races during his illustrious career including the Indy 500. Jones also has won 25 Sprint Car races, 25 Midget races and 13 Stock Car races.
At the age of 17, he started racing dirt and sprint cars, winning the Midwest Sprint Car in 1960. It was then that he caught the eye of J.C. Agajanian, who brought him into the big-time California racing circuits.
He first raced in the Indianapolis 500 in 1961 in a car called "01' Calhoun," now on display in the Indianapolis Speedway Museum. He finished 12th that year and was named "Rookie of the Year".
Jones became a car owner and produced Indy 500 winners in 1970 and 1971 with Al Unser as his driver.
Parnelli Jones is also a succsessful businessman, having found success in Firestone distributorships, among other pursuits.
