She started to become best known for her role as Kayla Brady Deveraux Johnson on the soap opera Days of our Lives from July 1986 to May 1992. Her character became half of the supercouple Patch & Kayla.
Evans returned to soaps in September 1993 as villainess Katherine Bell Ashton on General Hospital in which she remained until October 1999.
In 2004 One Life to Live almost signed her on contract for the role of Dr. Paige Miller on the series, but Evans backed out at the last moment and the role was filled with Kimberlin Brown, who left the show in 2005 to return to The Young and the Restless. Brown's replacements were Cady Huffman and Alexandra Neil.
She moved to New York to start her role as Sierra Estaban on As the World Turns from December 2000 to late 2005.
On June 12, 2006, Evans returned to Days of our Lives as Kayla after a fourteen year absence.
