Loren Roberts was born in San Luis Obispo, California. He competed for San Luis Obispo Senior High School and Cal Poly, turning professional in 1975 when the university dropped their NCAA golf team. He won PGA's National Assistant Club Pro Championship of 1979. He did not win on the PGA Tour until he was in his late thirties, but went on to win eight times in all and was known as the "Boss of the Moss" for his putting skills. He played for the United States in the 1995 Ryder Cup. In 2005 he joined the Champions Tour. His first senior win came at The Tradition, which is one of the five senior majors. In 2006 he became the first golfer to open a Champions Tour season with three wins. [1]. He contended in a playoff for the 1994 U.S. Open, with Ernie Els and Colin Montgomerie in which Els went on to win.
He has featured in the top 20 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
