Lee Roy Selmon played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners from 1972 to 1975 as a defensive lineman. Selmon's brothers, Lucious and Dewey, also played for Oklahoma. The Sooners won the National Championship in both 1974 and 1975. In 1975, Lee Roy Selmon won two prestigious accolades, the Lombardi Award and the Outland Trophy. Legendary coach Barry Switzer called Selmon the best player he ever coached.
Selmon was the first player picked in the 1976 NFL Draft, the first ever pick for the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his rookie year, he was named the Bucs' Rookie of the Year and MVP.
Selmon went to six straight Pro Bowls and was the NFL Defensive Lineman of the Year in 1979. Selmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 and in 1995, he was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.
Selmon stayed in Tampa, Florida, has worked as a bank executive and even served as the Ahtletics Director for the University of South Florida.
