The Dallas Cowboys drafted Lee Roy Jordan in the 1963 NFL Draft. By the time he left the team, Jordan became the franchise's all-time leader in solo tackles (743) in 14 seasons with the Cowboys. In 1989, Jordan became the seventh member of the Dallas Cowboy Ring of Honor at Texas Stadium.
During his career, Jordan was a two-time All-Pro and went to the Pro Bowl five times. With the Cowboys, Jordan was a member of three Super Bowl Championship teams and played in five NFC Championship games.
Small for his position at only 6'1" and 215 pounds, Jordan's competitiveness and drive made up for his lack of size. In 17 NFL seasons, Jordan posted 32 interceptions, returned three for touchdowns and also recovered 18 fumbles.
Jordan was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983. He played for the University of Alabama from 1960-1962. In 1961, the Crimson Tide recorded an 11-0 record and won the national title. Jordan was named an All American in 1962 and was named the Orange Bowl's outstanding player when posted a mind-boggling 30 tackles in 'Bama's 17-0 victory over Oklahoma.
Legendary, Hall of Fame coach Tom Landry said of Jordan, "He was a great competitor. He was not big for a middle linebacker, but because of his competitiveness, he was able to play the game and play it well. His leadership was there and he demanded a lot out of the people around him as he did of himself."
