While Laurie Hickson-Smith is often referred to as the "southern belle" of Trading Spaces, she is also a grande dame of design. Hickson-Smith's charm and grace, combined with elegeant and eclectic designs, have won over the hit show's viewers in droves. Laurie was featured with designer Frank Bielec and carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor on the show's premiere episode in 2000.
After many jobs in behind the scenes televison, Hickson-Smith recognized her appreciation of art and architecture. She enrolled at the New York School of Interior Design and graduated in 1999. She began work at an interior design firm in Jackson, Mississippi and soon after, the call came from Trading Spaces.
