Despite a creditable career on the PGA Tour, Larry Mize known primarily for his amazing chip shot off the green at hole #11 that secured his only major title, the 1987 Masters.
Mize attended Georgia Tech and joined the Tour in 1980. Mize played on the Tour for 20 seasons, from 1982 to 2001. Mize's first PGA Tour win was the 1983 Danny Thomas Memphis Classic.
Mize's win in the Masters was appreciated especially because he is an Augusta native, where the Masters is held every year, and had worked the scoreboard at Augusta's third hole as a teenager. Mize finished third at the 1994 Masters.
Mize also won four international events in his career and played for the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 1987 and on the U.S. team for the Dunhill Cup in 2000.
