Kevin Harlan was born in Milwaukee and is a 1982 graduate of the University of Kansas.
He joined Turner Sports for the 1996 NBA Playoffs, and also called 1997 playoff games for TNT and TBS Superstation. In 1998, he signed a four-year agreement to call NBA regular-season and playoff games.
He served as play-by-play announcer for numerous events, including: TNT's coverage of the 1999 Tournament of the Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament from San Juan, Puerto Rico; TBS' 1998 Goodwill Games basketball coverage; the 50th annual Delchamps Senior Bowl from Ladd Memorial Stadium in Mobile, AL; and TBS' Micron PC Bowl featuring University of Miami vs. N.C. State on December 29, 1998, from Pro Player Stadium in South Florida.
CAREER Through the 1997-98 NBA regular season, Harlan worked as the voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves on KFAN-AM Radio and on KARE-TV, the Timberwolves' television network. In addition, he began calling football games this fall for CBS, and has called games for Fox, NBC and ESPN in the past.
He was the voice of the Kansas City Chiefs for nine seasons, and also called college football for ESPN. Prior to that, he called football and basketball at the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri. He began in the business at the age of 22 as the radio and television voice of the Kansas City Kings.
Harlan has also covered the NBA Conference Finals for the NBA radio network.
