Keith Urban is a country music singer of Australian descent.
In 1990, he signed with EMI in Australia. He recorded his first solo album, charting four #1 hits in that country. Two years later, Urban moved to Nashville in order to pursue the largest country music market in the world.
His self-titled American debut was released in 2000, achieving three top-5 hits and earning the title of the Top New Male Vocalist at the 2001 Academy of Country Music Awards. In 2002, Keith released Golden Road. The success of the single "Somebody Like You" jump-started his career, topping the charts for eight consecutive weeks, remaining at #1 longer than any other country artist that year.
Three other singles were also released, two hitting No. 1 and the other hitting No. 3. His album went platinum in every country where it was released including triple platinum in the United States. Be Here was released in 2004 and was subsequently nominated for best country album at the Grammy Awards and at the Academy of Country Music Awards as well.Out of its five singles released, three went No. 1, and two landed at No. 2. The album went triple platinum in the U.S. in 2006.
Urban has since released a greatest hits collection, Days Go By, in Europe. With a career total of 13 singles released so far, seven of those singles hit #1, two went to #2, two others went to #3, one went to #4, and one went to #18. Keith Urban was also named the 2005 CMA's Entertainer of the Year.
He has made performances such as the Live 8 Philadelphia concert in 2005, the CMA awards, the American Music Awards, the Grammy's, and the American Country Music Awards.
In 2001, the artist posed semi-nude for Playgirl magazine. He has recently been chosen by The Gap to appear in their "Favorites" campaign as well.
