Kate Markgraf is a talented soccer player for the U.S. women's national soccer team.While attending high school, Kate led Detroit Country to the state title in 1991, scoring 16 goals and having 26 assists. Kate was also a volleyball player, making the All-League team three times.Kate made the NSCAA All-American soccer team once and was chosen for the All-State team three times.
Markgraf attended Notre Dame and was a three time NSCAA All-American, the 1997 Big East defensive player of the year, a three time all Big East selection and the defensive MVP of the NCAA's Final Four in 1995, the year her team won the NCAA women's soccer championship.
In 1998, Kate Markgraf played her first U.S. women's national team game against the national selection of Argentina. The U.S. won the Women's World Cup in 1999, Markgraf was the youngest member of the team. Kate also participated in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2004 Games in Athens. The U.S. took home the silver in 2000 and the gold in 2004.
Kate Markgraf was a member of the Boston Breakers in the WUSA league, and was named defender of the year for that team in 2001. She now plays professionally in the Swedish league alongside longtime USA teammate Kristine Lilly.
