Jon Entine, a columnist for Ethical Corporation Magazine and an adjunct fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C., writes for academic and popular publications around the world on business and society, corporate responsibility, reputation management, science and society, and media issues.
Jon Entine's articles have appeared in more than 200 publications in 9 countries, including The Wall Street Journal, GQ, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, Philadelphia Inquirer, Salon, National Review Online, Sunday Times (UK), Guardian and Guardian Weekend (UK), Observer (UK), Daily Mail, (UK), Daily Telegraph (UK), The Scotsman (UK), R.O.B./Report on Business (Toronto Globe and Mail), National Post (Can), Jerusalem Post, Australian Financial Review, Utne Reader, Progressive Populist, Executive Female, Drug and Cosmetic Industry, and Journal of the Society of Environmental Journalists.
Entine also consults with corporations, public interest groups, public relations companies, and law firms on issues of business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Entine has also appeared on more than 350 television and radio interview programs around the world, including NPR, BBC, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, HBO, C-Span, Fox News, CNN, ESPN, and CNN.
Jon Entine has participated in and organized dozens of public forums on policy issues, many at AEI, including: Is Corporate Social Responsibility Serious Business? (March 2006); Panic Attack: The New Precautionary Culture, the Politics of Fear (February 2006), Science Wars: Should Schools Teach Intelligent Design? (October 2005), The Business of Stem Cells, Race, Medicine, and Public Policy, Environmental Risk and Socially Responsible Investing and Public Pension Funds. Entine's most recent book, "Let Them Eat Precaution: How Politics Is Undermining the Genetic Revolution in Agriculture" (AEI Press, January 2006), engages the debate over revolutionary benefits of genetic modification in agriculture. "Pension Fund Politics: The Dangers of Socially Responsible Investing" (AEI Press, December 2005) discusses the politicization of the public pension fund system by political activists.
"Abraham's Children: How Genetics is Unlocking Jewish Identity and the Hidden History of the Bible" will be published in late 2006. It focuses on the nexus of social and genetic identity, the effort to identify cures for diseases that disproportionately impact specific populations, and the social and political tempest that a renewed focus on race research is stirring. His previous book on race and genetics, "Taboo: Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We are Afraid to Talk About It" (PublicAffairs, 2000), was widely praised and became an international bestseller. Taboo is based on an NBC News documentary written and produced with Tom Brokaw, "Black Athletes: Fact and Fiction," named Best International Sports Film of 1989.
Entine's articles on business and society are included in more than a dozen academic anthologies and business textbooks, including "The Encyclopedia of Leadership" and "Business and Society: Ethics and Stakeholder Management"
Entine's latest contribution, "The Stranger-Than-Truth Story of The Body Shop" in Killed: Great Journalism Too Hot to Print (Nation Books, June 2004), which Publisher's Weekly describes as a "model of investigative journalism," was originally written for Vanity Fair in 1994, but was censored because of libel threats. A distilled version of that article, "Shattered Image: Is The Body Shop Too Good to Be True?", appeared in Business Ethics magazine later that year, winning a National Press Club Award.
Previously, Jon Entine spent 20 years as a network television news producer, winning more than 20 awards, including two Emmys for specials on the reform movements in China and the former Soviet Union. Over the years, he produced news magazine programs at ABC News and CBS News, an entertainment special for NBC, and was Tom Brokaw's long-time producer at NBC News, where he was also the executive in charge of documentaries.
