A contributing editor to Good Housekeeping, where he writes diet and fitness articles, Jim Karas has gone from high school gym class flunk-out to one of the nation's top weight-loss experts and author of the #1 New York Times bestseller, The Business Plan for the Body and, more recently, Flip the Switch: Discover the Weight Loss Solution and the Secret to Getting Started, published by Harmony Books.
The founder of Jim Karas Personal Training Inc., Jim works with ABC's Diane Sawyer, among other celebrity and CEO clients, using the concepts of a classic business plan to help individuals lose weight. Jim has blended his Ivy League education with his passion for helping people successfully achieve weight loss.
Working as a private portfolio manager in Chicago, in 1985, Jim began exercising as a way to relieve stress. He became a part-time fitness instructor at a local health club, and soon his students were requesting individual training sessions. In 1987, Jim decided to make a radical career change and founded Solo Sessions, which has grown to become Jim Karas Personal Training Inc.
Jim's most innovative business venture has been the introduction of "The $10,000-a-Week Weight-Loss Solution." Moving in with clients for a week, Jim acts as a "turnaround specialist," custom-designing an eating and weight-loss program for them.
Named among the best personal trainers in the country by Allure magazine, Jim is a frequent guest on Good Morning America and has been featured in Time, 0: The Oprah Magazine, More, Us, Self, Town & Country and USA Today. Currently overseeing the operations of Jim Karas Personal Training Inc., Jim continues to work with private clients and lead weight-loss seminars throughout the United States. He lives in Chicago with his wife and two children.
