In 1997, Fassel distinguished himself as one of the best coaches in NFL history. After finishing in last place in the 1996 season, the Giants entered the 1997 season with Fassel as their new head coach. The Giants finished in first place, as NFC East Champions and as the first team to remain undefeated in the NFC East Division. Fassel was awarded NFL Coach of the Year. He is the fourth winningest coach in Giants History.
Known for developing quarterbacks, Jim Fassel entered the NFL in 1991 as quarterback coach for the Giants. He is credited for developing the talents of John Elway of the Denver Broncos, Kent Graham of the Arizona Cardinals and veteran player Boomer Esiason.
Fassel is currently a Senior Consultant to the Baltimore Ravens.
