James Blake is an American professional tennis player from Yonkers, New York.
After just two years at Harvard University, Blake dropped out of school to pursue his career in tennis. He gained national attention for his tough, never give up attitude at the 2001 U.S. Open. Although he did not win, many people liked what they saw.
At the 2001 Davis Cup, Blake became only the third African-American to play in the tournament for the United States. After breaking his neck in 2004, his career was thought to be in jeopardy. However, just a year later he would go on to win his third ATP tour title.
After numerous wins in 2005 and 2006, he has jumped to 9th in the world rankings and is the second-ranked American behind Andy Roddick.
