Jack Del Rio is the current head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Del Rio's passion for football began when he was an All-American linebacker at the University of Southern California. In his senior year at USC, he earned all consensus All-American honors and was runner-up for the Lombardi Award. Also while at USC, Del Rio played baseball and in 1981 was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1981. He decided to stick with football.
In the 1985 NFL Draft, Del Rio was drafted by the New Orleans Saints. His 11-year career was spent between the Saints, the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and Minnesota Vikings. During his career, he was selected to the 1994 Pro Bowl. Prior to the 1996 season, Del Rio signed with the Miami Dolphins. He eventually retired before the season when he lost his job to rookie Zach Thomas.
Del Rio began his coaching career with the New Orleans Saints in 1997 as the Strength and Conditioning coach. In 1999, he accepted a position with the Baltimore Ravens as their linebackers coach. After the 2001 season, he was named defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers.
In 2003 Del Rio became the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Del Rio is credited with taking the Jaguars to their first playoff appearance in five seasons.
