Howard Cassady is a former NFL football player and was the 1955 Heisman Trophy winner. He attended Ohio State where he earned All-American honors twice and his most notable award, the Heisman Trophy.
While at Ohio State he played both running back and defensive back. In his 36 games in college, not one pass was ever completed on Cassady. Also while at Ohio State, he was a member of the baseball team.
Cassady played nine seasons in the NFL; seven with the Detroit Lions and one each with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns. He was used primarily on defense, however, he would also play running back where he scored 27 touchdowns.
He currently lives in Tampa, Florida, but he spends his summers in Columbus as a coach for the AAA baseball team, the Columbus Clippers. He is also a scout for the New York Yankees.
